fons et origo

I used to blog in various places, and for the last year or so I've been on Tumblr, but the reasons why I decided to start this new blog are rather specific. I enjoy reading other people's blogs, but it feels like a lot of blogs are very material in their focus. I don't tend to lust after bloggers' clothes, or their beauty products, or anything material, really (I do make exceptions for books, though few bloggers go as mad for books as I do). What I find inspirational are other people's lives, the experiences they have and the effort they put into documenting them. That's why I want to blog: I want to remind myself of the things in life I love, and keep a record of it.

 [*]

So, I have a few aims for this blog:
  • Geek out about Classics. Bearing in mind I have a dissertation to write in the next seven weeks (eep!) I imagine there will be a lot of discussion about theatrical presences in the ancient novel. I make no apologies for the weird and strange ramblings that are likely to result from this.
  • Baking and cooking. I not only spend a lot of time doing this because I'm a student and can't afford to eat out all the time, but I really enjoy doing anything in a kitchen. It's nice to be able to be so creative and productive, not to mention that I've found people tend to be a lot more amiable when you present them with cheesecake. Ergo, recipes and food porn pictures will be likely to appear frequently. And tea. Tea is always good.
  • Discussions of books. I like to read far too much for my own good, not to mention the good of my work, and so book reviews/debates are basically inevitable.
  • Cambridge. This is my favourite city in the world (I was born and raised here, and now I'm back to study), and it's far too beautiful not to discuss frequently. A beautiful city of historical buildings, academic institutions coupled with some of the best places for afternoon tea...what could be more delightful? So yes, expect long rambling digressions about Cantabrigia and its beauty.

In short, this is my life, and I'm making the effort to enjoy it, document it and remind myself of all the exciting and exhilerating things that I can do every day. As the Romans said, carpe diem.
